All these abbreviations above, have one thing in common. They measure how efficiently an air conditioner operates. But that doesn’t mean all the abbreviations itself are efficient at doing it! So what is the difference between EER, SEER, COP and SCOP?
EER stands for Energy Efficiency Ratio and SEER for Seasonal Efficiency Ratio, while COP stands for Cooefficient of Performance and SCOP stands for Seasonal Cooefficient of Performance.
(S)EER measures the efficiency of the equipment in cooling while (S)COP measures the efficiency of the equipment in heating.
Now what does this S for seasonal stand for? Well without the seasonal effect, you are only measuring the efficiency on one set point. Most of the time this set point is such an extreme temperature that rarely occurs throughout a year, which means it’s not showing you a correct view on the efficiency of an air conditioner. That is why we at Verda Vento prefer to work with manufacturers who publish their seasonal values (SEER and SCOP). These values show the energy performance of the air conditioners over the course of a season with different temperature ranges which gives you a much more realistic view on the energy consumption of your air conditioning.
When it comes to using EER and SEER ratings to compare products, it’s important to remember that comparing one air conditioner’s EER to another’s SEER won’t provide you with any relevant information. You’ll want to examine the EER for an air conditioner against the EER for another air conditioner or SEER vs. SEER to get the most accurate knowledge.
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) measures how efficiently an air conditioner operates over an entire season. Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is a standardized measurement of the efficiency of an air conditioner. The higher either ratio is, the more efficient the unit is. Do you want to learn more about this? Have a look at Daikin’s youtube video that explains everything in some more detail.
We’ve scanned the market throughout Cape Town and have selected the best aircons with the highest seasonal efficiencies.
